Nurturing creativity at Sacred Heart
The art program at Sacred Heart School centers on the individual child. Experiences in art allow children to express themselves successfully while developing skills and concepts that are the basis of art education.
We believe that art assists in developing and using higher level critical and creative thinking skills. It helps students to develop and use a unique form of communication and self expression. Art also provides another way for students to experience their own and other cultures.
Most importantly, art increases learning in all areas of the curriculum, builds self-esteem, encourages self-reliance and enhances lifelong learning.
Sacred Heart School utilizes Art Trek, Inc., an independent, hands-on, non-profit arts program dedicated to imparting to each student in grades 2 – 8 a basic working knowledge of art techniques, media, vocabulary and history. Their mission is to create a positive and confidence-building experience for individuals of all ages and socio-economic backgrounds: in classrooms, in public facilities, in their studio and wherever they can meet a need. In addition to providing teachers with professional training workshops, Art Trek also supplies materials to provide students with hands-on art instruction. The program supports Sacred Heart Elementary students with a well-rounded educational experience.
